My action packer upgrade

So I put an action packer on the back of my bike today. This will enable me to carry more and/or store my gear when I get where I am going. Here is how I did it.

First, I put a small action packer on the bike and lined up and marked where I needed to drill holes. Then I flipped it over drilled the holes in the plastic(1) and mounted it using eye bolts on my bikes hooks(2) and using a washer on the inside so the nut would not dig into the plastic. You tighten it down from the inside(3) making sure to compress the cushioning a bit. It forces me forward a little bit but not much(4). When I have my gear on, it is no wider than I am so it does not increase drag(5). I have to mount from the pegs now. The box itself is deep enough to hold my helmet(6), but it doesn’t have room for much else. Luckily I can use the lock to lock the helmet to the outside(7). Only lone lock has to be off to get the lid off.

Is that a Green Lantern T-shirt? And am I just as big of a nerd for being able to name it?

Nice DYI project! Looks like perfect size for a couple small bags of groceries too.

It will hold my jacket and my pants (tight fit). and will hold at least a gallon of milk, carton of eggs, loaf of bread, bag of animal crackers, and a box of cheese its with room to spare.

Are you worried about groceries sliding around and tipping or do you secure them?

I wondered about the sliding on my first trip, especially with eggs, bread, and milk in the back. I think I had everything in there pretty tight and I think the bolts helped hold things in place. I also think that the same force that keeps you from sliding off the side of your bike also keep the groceries pretty upright.

I do think I need to fabricate something to hold smaller items such as a dvd or book or whatnot. But I haven’t figured anything out yet. If anyone has any ideas, I would be happy to hear them.

You could but some hooks or velcro for a cargo net but the one I have for my Ninja is big enough to cover the whole passenger seat.
